James Dondero of Highland Capital Management Awards The Family Place a Grant

The Family Place an organization based in Dallas that supports the victims of violence has been awarded a one million dollar challenge grant by Highland Capital, L.P. James Dondero made the announcement of the grant during the Texas Trailblazer Awards Luncheon which was held by The Family Place at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. The Dallas Foundation is the charitable department of Highland Capital Management. The foundation will match 50% of donations received toward the Capital Campaign until it reaches one million dollars by the selected deadline. Since the announcement was made in October, The Family Place has raised $200,000. Highland Capital will match $100,000 dollars thanks to the grant. The Family Place needs $2.5 million dollars to reach its goal of raising $16.5 million dollars. The Highland Capital challenge grant ensures that The Family Place will finish its fundraising efforts in a favorable place.

James Dondero awarded the grant when the Dallas mayor and the chief of police asked the community to help solve issues in Dallas. James Dondero is impressed with how The Family Place managed its fundraising campaign from inception to the final stage and used the challenge award to encourage donations. The Family Place strives to provide shelter and services to victims of family violence. The challenge grant given by Highland Capital Management’s, Dallas Foundation, which matches any monies raised through fundraising up to one million dollars will help double the impact The Family Place makes by providing additional services.

The Family Place will construct a new counselling center as a result of its Legacy Campaign. The central Dallas counselling center will provide services to victims of family violence and will be named after Ann Moody. The Ann Moody Place will be designed by Corgan an architecture and design firm. The Ann Moody Place will include a medical and dental clinic, private counselling rooms, 13 emergency shelter bedrooms, group counselling rooms, job training spaces, and a call center/ hotline. The Ann Moody Place will provide service to over 2,000 victims annually and will include an animal shelter for families beloved pets.
