The Chainsmokers duo Alex Pall and Drew Taggart keep bringing us hit after hit and their new single “Somebody” is absolutely no exception! Recently, the two released a video showing their fans how they made the song. It isn’t often that we get to see how a song was made from start to finish, but The Chainsmokers have always loved giving their fans a glimpse into their busy lives. The New York-based Chainsmokers know what it takes to make a hit song and “Somebody” is absolutely no exception.
While right now they only have a short fast-forward video of the process, they have promised their fans that they will soon be releasing a full-length tutorial on how it was done. The video that was posted on Facebook shows Alex Pall playing melodic chords on a piano while Alex Pall is hitting the synth hard! For “Somebody” modular synth work was used extensively to create a sound that is unique to The Chainsmokers with vocal samples that are pitched-up. In fact, the vocal samples used in “Somebody” weren’t actually recorded for that particular song. They were recorded for an entirely different single and pitched-up for the song to fit their vision.
The Chainsmokers have had a huge year in 2018, one of their biggest accomplishments was earning the top spot on Billboard Dance 100 list earlier this year. They thanked their fans and other musicians that inspired and helped them along the way. With their second single reaching more than a billion streams on Spotify, they have certainly earned the position. They are the first duo of their kind to earn this coveted position in the way that they did. Billboard’s list was compiled strictly by data with nobody’s personal opinion affecting the outcome and with their numbers, The Chainsmokers came out on top over other artists vying for the spot. They were honored to achieve that type of recognition and gave a nod to the other musicians who had made the list.
